ABOUT

The Dekumight Mini Bang is an interactive online event where writers and artists create collaborative works for the fictional pairing of Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Toshinori Yagi (All Might) - AKA DekuMight - from the manga and animated series My Hero Academia/Boku no Hero Academia.

If you don’t submit by October 19th – and don’t communicate with me about submitting at a later time, you can not participate in future paired events (big bangs, secret santas, Christmas in july, etc.)

About Check Ins: Please contact me on or before the check in dates to update me on your progress. If I don't hear from you by the check in date(s), I'll message you as soon as I'm able to see how things are going for you and your partner.

Note: Please have all fics posted by October 12th/October 19th, with art included.
Writers should be done with their fics no later than Sept 27th. This will give your artists time to work on the art for your story and any other story that they are creating artwork for. Please do not wait till the last second to write your fic! Keep the artist posted on how you’re coming along. If you’d like to show them your work along the way, they can start having an idea of what scene(s) they’d like to draw. This could help them with managing their time.

FAQs

Before asking the admin a question, please check here first!
Your question might already have been answered! Thank you!

What is a big bang/mini bang event?

A big bang is a collaboration where an artist and writer will collaborate together to make a fic with artwork. This bang is a “mini bang” where it has a significantly smaller word minimum than a “big bang”, which generally has a 15k word minimum – though I have seen some that are as low as 5-7k words. This bang event is specifically for the BNHA ship DekuMight.

How is THIS big bang/mini bang going to work?

First writers and artists will sign up for the event. After the sign up period has ended and the admin knows who will be taking part, the artist will get to choose a prompt/summary that they’d like to make art for. The prompts/summaries are anon, so you wont’ know who the author is. I will list all the different prompts with a #/code that artists will choose from. An artist will choose 1 prompt at a time. After every artist has chosen 1 prompt, those who are willing to work with more than one story can start choosing from the prompts that remain, this will go on until every prompt has at least one artist.

[After every prompt has been chosen, if you wanna work on artwork for another story, you can do so, just let the admin know – this would allow for stories to have multiple works by multiple artists. However, this is only allowed once each prompt has at least one person]

Once all the prompts are chosen, the admin will inform you of who the author is, so you can contact them! You will keep in contact about your progress with the other person. The admin will check in on the progress of both parties on the check in dates!

Expect something that looks like this:

When you are choosing from several prompts, it will look something like this. If you see [MINOR] next to the #CODE, it means the author is a minor (16 or 17), just so you know in advance (I know some people would rather work with someone older). You will also see the place that person prefers to be contacted. That information will be elaborated on once I give you the name of the person you're working with.

I will list your name under "Artist(s)" once it has been claimed.
(this will be viewable in a google docs after sign ups)

Writer: Can I use a WIP for this event?

Depends on what you mean by WIP. If this is a story that you've already had posted on Ao3, then no, it can't be a completed fic, and it can't be for a chapter to a WIP fic that you have. The fic that you are creating for this bang must be either A.) a sequel to an existing story (not as a chapter but a new post - that can be apart of a series/ has to stand alone) or B.) a completely new story - be it a one shot or multichapter. This story must be new to everyone but yourself. So, it can't be something you've posted on Ao3, Wattpad, FFnet, or even a twitter fic thread.

Writer: When can I start working on my fic?

As soon as you are done signing up you can begin! You can start before the Artist prompt selection, you don’t have to wait for your story to be chosen. If you are writing OT3 content, however, you might wanna wait till we have an artist chosen for you, in the event it’s a challenge to find someone willing to draw for an OT3 ship.

Why is the word limit so low?

I made it low because unlike other events with higher word counts, this event is only going to be for a 2 month duration. Larger word minimum events tend to give you several months (4-7 months), but since we have several different events througout the year at DMS, I figured it’d be better to make the word count lower. This way people aren’t too burnt out if they participated in the past event or want to participate in the event after this.

Does this event fic have a theme? Must I write about a certain trope/AU/etc?

Nope, you can write about whatever you want! There is no specific theme!

Writer: When signing up, what should I say about my story?

You can just give a general idea about what the story is about, which can be summed up in a sentence or you can do a full blown paragraph summary. Whatever you do, just be sure to give a clear idea of what you're going for, so the artists can make an informed decision. There will be a section to mention tags/things the story will contain.

Is the artist required to draw a specific scene or what is being requested by the author?

No, you aren’t required to draw what is being requested/suggested by the author. You can make art for whatever part of the story you’d like – what you’re comfortable drawing. Now it’s perfectly okay to ask the author if there is a part they’d like to see re-imagined with your artwork, but you should not be pressured by them to do so. They can state their preference, but trying to make someone draw something is not okay. This is supposed to be fun for both parties, so please don’t keep asking if the artist declines.

Can I write more than 2.5k words?

Yes, the fic can be as long as you want. Just needs to be at least 2.5k words.

Can I draw more than one piece for a fic?

Yes, if there are multiple scenes that you’d like to draw, have at it. So long as one of them is “at your best effort”, any other artwork you make for the fic can be just as much effort or sketches after that. Also consider making art for other collabs as well, if you want (if you wanna do this, contact the admin).

Can minors join this event?

Yes, minors can join! However, keep in mind you can ONLY create work that is SFW and can only work with an artist/writer that will create SFW art/fic.

Can I contact my partner (the author/the artist)?

Yes, of course! After it is revealed who the author is for the selected prompt/summary (the prompt the artist selected), the admin will reveal who the author is – after that, you both can remain in contact about the fanfic and the artwork.

Can I share my WIP within the server or on other platforms?

No! Please don't post bits and pieces of your writing, don't show sketches, or anything of that nature! This should be a surprise to everyone but your collab partner! You can show the admin though! ;)

I'm posting my work on Ao3, which tags do I add to my fic and which collections do I add the fic to?

If you are writing a fanfiction and posting it to Ao3, PLEASE post your work in the DMS Secret Santa, Bangs, & Christmas in July Events collection as well as the DekuMight Squad Events (Full Collection). Please also use the tags "dekumightsquad" and "dmsminibang2019.”

Are OT3s allowed? (Izuku x Toshinori x ???)

Yes, it can be any character from MHA (a student, a teacher, whatever)! However, keep in mind it might be challenging to find you someone willing to write your OT3. So please, be understanding that artists might not be too receptive of these kinds of ships. If we can't find someone willing, perhaps have a backup prompt in mind that is DekuMight only. The admin will try to find an artist willing to do OT3 though!

I am a writer and my artist didn’t come through, what do I do?

The admin will make an effort to find you someone who is willing to draw art for your story, this person would be a pinch hitter. You can wait to post your story until we find a pinch hitter or you can post your story and the art will come later.

I am an artist and my writer didn’t come through, what do I do?

Well, in the event that this happens there are a few options. You can create art for another story, even if they already have an artist. This would then be a story with multiple works by multiple artists. Another option is to find you a pinch hitter, who will likely make a shorter story (though they might do the word minimum) and you can make art for that, assuming you like the prompts. Or if your original author doesn’t come through, you can opt to be a pinch hitter for someone who’s artist didn’t come through. If no one needs an artist as a pinch hitter, you can just opt to drop the event.

What is a pinch hitter?

A pinch hitter is someone (a wonderful amazing someone) who will fill in when your original partner doesn't come through. If you decide to be a pinch hitter, you have different minimums for your "pinch hitter fic/artwork". Fanfiction - 1.5k word minimum. Art - Quality sketches (what you can do in say... an hour and a halfs time). You are still free to go all out (and we encourage it)! We appreciate your kindness to fill!

You can be a pinch hitter only, you don’t have to already be apart of the event. If you are already apart of the event, you can be a pinch hitter, but I’d suggest not volunteering unless you are already done with your collab.

What is a beta?

A beta is someone who is available to help the writer go over their fic. They can check for errors, such as continuity, spelling, grammar, etc.

You can be exclusively a beta. You don’t’ have to already be taking part in the event. If you are already apart of the event, you can still be a beta, but I’d say, if you are a writer for your own story, it might be best to wait till you finish your own story first.

Are OCs allowed for this event?

No, not for this event. They however will be allowed in the winter event - Secret Santa 2019

Where do I post my work when it's done and when?

Your work can be posted on a variety of platforms Tumblr, Twitter, Pillowfort, etc. for art. For fanfic, I’d suggest using Ao3 or Wattpad – both of these sites support text and images, unlike FF.NET! As for when, you can start posting your work any time after both the fic and artwork are completed!

How do I post art to a fanfic on Ao3?

(image must be uploaded on another site, such as tumblr/twitter/etc.)

First select the part of the fic where you’d like to insert the image.
Then use the following code below!

<p align="center"> <img src="artworklink.jpg" alt="Artwork By: X"> </p>

(You can also use RichText to add images instead of HTML)

Please credit the artist! You can do this in the top or end notes or below the image like this: (example)

How do I post art to a fanfic on Wattpad?

First select the part of the fic where you’d like to insert the image.
While editing your fic you will see a couple of icons appear.

Click on the lil image icon and directly upload the image.
You do not need to link from another site.
Please credit the artist! You can do this in the top or end notes or below the image like this: (example)

I am an artist and I’m afraid of being recognized for my artwork/posting my art on my main socials, what do I do?

Understandable, especially with the fandom climate as it is atm… If you want to create art for this event, I’d suggest changing your art style to avoid being noticed as easily? Perhaps imitate canon, try an art style of someone you admire, use this as a time to try something new with your style? This can also apply to your coloring as well. As for where to post your work, I’d suggest maybe creating a “problematic” twitter account that you can have locked. You can link to it on DMS and only let members here have access to it. You could also use privatter on your main account and allow only mutuals to see or something like that, this way, there is less of a chance that an anti will see it. It’s really up to you and what you’re comfortable with.

I am an artist and am afraid/uncomfortable posting my fics on my main account(s), what do I do?

I suggest maybe making a dekumight only account on Ao3. Though, keep in mind, if you want to post your fic on Ao3, make a dekumight only account ASAP, since it can take AWHILE to get the invite to the website (depending on the time of year you do it)!

Another option is if you already have an AO3 account. Post the fic as anon. You do this by adding your fic to the anonymous collection. (when you click on the fic it will say Anonymous (your username in parenthesis) ) but when you look at the tag/the collection, it will say Anonymous: TITLE OF FIC by Anonymous.
